Christmas morning
the Honolulu City Lights

surfing snowman!

It has been such a long time since I have blogged! I guess I will start where I left off... We went to see the Hono.,ln lulu City Lights and they were mesmerizing! We all had so much fun! Luka loved all of the different colored lights and screamed with joy at his favorites. Poata's mom came along, she was visiting us from Dec. 9th though January 15th, she loved the exhibit as well. Christmas Eve we went out to dinner then to my cousin Rama's house, she needed to make sure that I ate tamales on Christmas Eve because we are both away from our family and that is definitely one of our traditions so I'm really happy she kept the tradition going for us. Christmas day we woke up bright and early and opened up all of our presents, well all of Luka's presents! He helped us tear the paper and was very happy eating all of the different wrapping papers! We ate good breakfast then I got to baking and when I finished we went to a friends house for a giant feast they had prepared. The day after Christmas we went to see Avatar in 3d and it was AWESOME!! Luka had a blast!! He watched the entire 3 hour movie! Poata's mom also really liked it, well who didn't like that movie! For New Year's we went up Pupukea to a friends house who also has a baby and they cooked us a delicious dinner and from their house we could see all of the fireworks from Haleiwa, Waialua and pretty much the whole North Shore, super cool! We had a lot of fun there, Luka and Stephan (their 1 year old) were fast asleep the whole night but they both woke up in time to see some fireworks and get really scared before going back to sleep. New Year's day we went to Penifea's 1st birthday party! Luka had a lot of little babies to meet and play with. He was also heavier than the birthday boy! Penifea is 21 and Luka is 23 pounds! We went to another 1st birthday party the following week, Nona Vee's! Jen did an amazing job baking the cutest lady bug cakes for the party! She is an awesome baker! Yesterday, Jan. 22 we had an "Adventure Day" Poata and I have them every so often to explore things we haven't done before and now that we have Luka in the picture we have more of a reason to do fun adventures. We took Luka to the Waikiki Aquarium and he LOVED it! He was so fascinated by the different colorful fishes swimming right up to his face. We also ate at the Cheesecake Factory and it was amazing as usual! Luka is 5 months now and is doing so great! He is about 23 pounds, he has tried a variety of different foods now including bananas, green beans, squash, prunes, rice cereal, poi, and apple juice. He can roll over in both directions and is constantly rolling all over the place. He sits up unsupported and has been doing that since the begining of November at 3 1/2 months but now he can get up to the sit up position on his own too! He can also stand up on his own when he holds onto something! He just started that a couple of days ago. He is trying really hard to crawl but doesn't get very far yet before he falls over onto his face. He loves taking baths and would stay in his tub all day if I let him. He loves to play outside on the grass and in the sand. We still love to take our walks to alligators and he gets his feet wet now. We are so happy to have Luka in our lives and he makes everything more fun!

I <3 DECEMBER!

We have done a lot since my last post but I'll just touch on my favorite events... The in memory of Eddie Aikau contest was ON!!! It was the first time in 7 years that they have run it and it was sooo much fun! I'm so glad I got to see it because I haven't missed one since I have lived here which is almost all of the contests because this year was the 25th. It was packed! And even if I didn't want to go to the contest and go somewhere else instead I couldn't because since I live at Waimea I was pretty much blocked in by traffic! There is noooooo way I would have waited in that line of cars to go anywhere! But the contest was fun! We got our Christmas tree! It is a 7 foot noble fur! It's beautiful!! I'm sooo happy! Our colors are gold and red. The lights are a working progress, we need to buy more but these will do for now. We also ordered Luka a stocking to match ours. We took our Christmas photo as well so that we can send out cards so here is a preview. Poata's mom flew in from Samoa and arrived here on Friday. She loves Luka so much and is nice to have around! She is the sweetest lady ever! She brought Luka a whole bunch of Samoan clothes that he looks sooo cute in! He wore one of the outfits to church today. She will be here for a month so I will have plenty of time to take her around to see all of the Christmas festivities! We will go to see the Honolulu City Lights sometime this week so I will make sure to post some pictures of that soon. Here are some pictures of the previously mentioned activities.

He LOVED this blanket!! This was at peir one. It seriously was the softest blanket I have ever felt! and it had big pom poms dangling from it but it was 50$ so I didn't buy it but I really think I should have! he looks like cherry pie filling.

Since Thanksgiving Poata has been off of work because they are waiting to start their new job which means we have daddy home to play with!! It has been so much fun to have him around! Luka doesn't like car rides unless I'm sitting in the back with him so if Poata is at work then Luka and I are pretty much stuck at home except for our walks and outside time, we don't get to drive anywhere. I took full advantage of having our chauffeur home... Black Friday we didn't want to get stampeded on but we still wanted to get our shop on so we went to the surf shops in Haleiwa. Saturday sales were still going on so we headed over to Waikele, and Pearlridge and we all got some new fun stuff but most importantly we got outfits for the Haleiwa Joe's Cristmas party which is next Tuesday and our family Christmas picture that we are taking this weekend. Then my brother came by Saturday night and hung out for a little and I made a really yummy tofu curry for dinner. Luka had a lot of fun playing with his uncle especially when he makes Luka's jeep drift! Sunday we went to church and got lunch to go from Haleiwa Joes. Monday we had Luka's 4 month check up which went great! When the doctor came in the room he was so surprised to see Luka sitting on the examination table all by himself, he said babies usually can't sit up like him until about 7 months! He also said he was very advanced for his age with his playing skills, he can grab toys and bring them towards him and eat them, and move them between hands and also with his leg strength, he can stand up with just a little balancing help. Luka is growing so fast and doing new fun things every day! He just learned how to scream on Thanksgiving and it's the funniest thing ever! He gets so happy and instead of doing his normal laugh he screams on the top of his lungs with a big smile. After his appointment we went to eat at Aunty Pastos, one of our favorite restaurants, it was delicious as usual then we went shopping again! This time we went for Christmas things. We bought tons of really beautiful ornaments from Pier One Imports, our color theme is red and gold. I am sooooo excited for Christmas!!! It's Luka's first!! And his grandma from Samoa is coming to visit!! She arrives on December 10th and will be here through December. We are planning on buying our tree this weekend and by then Luka's personalized Christmas stocking to match Poata's and mine should be here. Today, Tuesday, the Van's Triple Crown of Surfing was on and for the first time in a few days the weather was perfect! We headed to Sunset Beach and had sooo much fun! Luka loved the beach! We put him in the sand for the first time and of course he had a handful but we managed to get it all out of that little slimy mouth of his. He watched the waves and all of the people and he had such a good time that it made Poata and I have an awesome time as well! We came home to a loaf of homemade pumpkin bread that I made this morning. The past few days have been perfect! I love my husband and my little boy so much and couldn't be any happier!

Thanksgiving 2009!

We had such an awesome Thanksgiving day yesterday! I made pesto mashed potatoes, stuffing with pecans, apples, celery and carrots in it, baked tofu, ginger carrots, pecan roasted broccoli, mandarin orange raspberry cranberry sauce and a pumpkin and a pecan pie. Jai made a Tofurkey and it was sooo good! I have never had one but at Jai's Thanksgivings he usually makes one so he brought one to our Thanksgiving this year and I am glad he did! He also made a vegetarian mushroom gravy and candied yams. Rama and Ky brought calavasitas ( a Mexican creamy corn, squash and zuccini dish) and a fruit salad and Ky made a apple puff pastry pie. Everything was amazing! Luka was such a good boy the entire day, his dad watched him while I cooked which was a treat for Poata because he doesn't get too much one on one time with Luka because he works so much. While we were eating Luka played in his jeep walker and was very content but I felt so bad for him because we were all eating and he was literally drooling over the food, he drools a lot anyways but lately he has been eyeing out our food and grabbing it out of our hands! Even when we are drinking juice or water he grabs the cup and so I will put it up to his lips and he tries to drink it, I don't let him but he seems to know how. He hasn't started to eat any solids yet but I think he might be ready to. He is 4 months now! I can't believe it's been that long, time has really flown by! He has outgrown so many of his clothes and when I take them out of his closet and put them away I can't believe he ever even fit in them! Anyways, Luka is growing up and is becoming such a sweetheart! He cuddles with me at night and is much more easy going in the day then he used to be. He loves shopping with me and playing outside, especially watching the waves at the beach, maybe he'll be a little surfer.

Conference

The previously mentioned conference was amazing!! Although the Prophet was unable to be there in person with us due to his wife's injury his talk that was broadcasted was so eloquent and meaningful. Every speaker had such an amazing message. Sister McCaunkey's (spelling??) testimony was awesome, she talked about how an experience when she was 6 years old and couldn't find her witches mask for Halloween strengthened her testimony because she remembers praying for it to Heavenly Father then opening a drawer and it being the first thing in the drawer. It's just amazing how little things like that can create a testimony! Elder Tom Perry's talk had to be my favorite though! He was just so enthusiastic about everything he said that it made it so enjoyable to listen to! Anyways here are some pictures of Luka in his cute new church outfit and then a couple random ones like him playing with his new walker.

I am Thankful For My Mother!

My mommy flew in today to visit her little Luka and we went straight to the mall! SOOO FUN! She bought her little grandchild everything he needed and more! She bought him a security blanket that he can't stop slobbering over and a jeep walker that has mirrors that spin around and a little steering wheel, his room is jungle themed so we figured a jeep would fit right in like he was going on a safari or something. We also got him pretty much an entire wardrobe of adorable clothes! He also got a handful of teething toys because I think those pearly whites are making their way out. And his aunty Savanna picked out the cutest rocking pony for him which he really loves! He needs a little help staying on it on his own but he has the biggest smile when we rock him. He also got a couple books and a pair of Kanye West style sunglasses and a Volcom hat just like his daddy's. Luka is one spoiled little baby for sure!!! And next week Luka's other grandma is coming to visit from Samoa so I'm sure there is more spoiling his way! I am thankful for mommy;s and grandma's today!

THE PROPHET IS COMING!

Soooo we are very excited because this Sunday we will see the Prophet, Thomas S. Monson speak at a conference in Laie! I have never seen a prophet speak in person and I honestly feel blessed to be able to do so! I also am very happy that Luka will have this experience, although he is too young to be able to remember it I know it will definitely help him strengthen his testimony later in life! And Luka has a really cute new church outfit to wear. This is the perfect thing to kick start our Holiday in the right direction!

Luka is 3 months old now! He is EIGHTEEN POUNDS!! And he is the cutest little boy in the world! He is really smiley and laughs a lot now. He loves when his dad comes home from work to play with him. He also loves school, (we have pretend school everyday for an hour and he has to learn his abc's and numbers and colors) he is really attentive the whole time and loves the abc song. He loves going on walks with me, we used to walk to waimea every morning but now we walk to alligators and I know this sounds corny but it is magical! We see sooo many sea turtles, even baby ones, and huge red and black crabs and little fish in the shore. We walk in the water to get our feet wet and we walk along the beach as far as we can until there are too many rocks. It is by far my favorite part of the day! Here are some recent pictures of Luka.

Getting ready for the haunted lagoon.

Luka had his first Halloween! To kick off the festivities we took him to Polynesian Cultural Center's Haunted Lagoon ride on Wednesday which was not a good idea! He was pretty much traumatized! He was good and smiling for the first half of the ride but once he heard the chainsaw go off he flipped the switch and freaked! Then on Friday we had our wards trunk or treat but we were late and missed most of it. Then Saturday was Halloween and we woke up to carve Luka's pumpkin which started off pretty bad because Poata wanted to carve it with his jigsaw but Luka cried the whole time from the noise plus the saw was messing the pumpkin up and I was mad because he still wanted to use his saw! So anyways we switched to a knife and everything worked out fine and Luka loved starring at us carve while we explained Halloween to him. After carving our pumpkin I made whole wheat pumpkin pancakes that we pretty good then we had pumpkin pie! lol. On Halloween night we got dressed up, Luka as superman and us as criminals and we went to eat at Haleiwa Joes, dinner was great and all of my former co-workers were really excited to see Luka! After dinner we planned on going to backyards to trick or treat a little because Luka loves to see other kids but he fell asleep in the car and was really tired so I didn't want to wake him so we called it a night. Not the best Halloween but not the worst either. We are happy safe and in love nothing can be that bad!

October 2009 pictures

Our life in the month of October...
I will post a separate Halloween section =)

I got this idea from Kalei and Drew... It is hard to get things done with a baby attached to your hip so to do laundry I just throw Luka in the basket with the clothes and bring him out to the washer/dryer with me lol. He thinks it's pretty fun.
Getting ready for church... this was the first of three outfits we had to put on him he kept burping up over all of them right after we put them on. lol.
